Book Haul: July 2019

So it’s the end of July, and with the end of July comes many questions. What am I doing with my life? How do I buy so many books? Why is it so hot? Another is why am I not writing my dissertation but I think most people can understand that feeling. Anyway, once again I managed to throw my money at many books. I was very lucky to receive several eARCs which I haven’t listed here too. However, I am happy to see progress in my actual reading as a result of my plan to get a whole series before I start. Yes, I have more books right now, but that’s going down quite rapidly.

Which books did you pick up this month? Here are mine! And don’t forget to look out for my monthly recap.

All That Glows – Ryan Graudin (buy here)

A random find when browsing my wishlist, this suggestion came up. After looking at the premise, i.e. faeries, which I love, I decided to pick this up. It wasn’t until it arrived that I realised I actually already own a book by this author so that was a nice surprise to me!

The Bane Chronicles – Cassandra Clare (and others) (buy here)

Okay, I know Cassandra Clare is a controversial figure in YA, but hear me out. I read the original Mortal Instruments back when it was still a trilogy and only the first two books has been released. After City of Glass I never picked up another of her books and actually read it. Although I did re-read City of Bones around the time the movie came out, I haven’t read any of her work since then. It’s been so long that I decided I’d buy all of her books and just re-read and finish everything. If I decide I don’t like it after, I won’t come back to it.

Beren and Luthien – J.R.R.Tolkien (Buy here)

I’m a massive Lord of the Rings fan and I already have the Children of Hurin Alan Lee illustrated version so I wanted to add this. I actually also bought another copy of Children of Hurin because the dust jacket got ripped during a move. I am well on my way to having a beautiful little LotR shrine on my bookshelf.

Blink and You’ll Die (Ruby Redfort) – Lauren Child (Buy here)

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m attempting to finish series that I start and that has also meant making sure I collect all the books before I start. I was adding this to the series and I’m only missing two books now.

Children of Blood and Bone – Tomi Adeyemi (Buy here)

Unpopular opinion central but I wasn’t hyped or even interested in this book when it came out. However, everyone’s still raving about it but I wasn’t ready to commit by buying it full price. I found it in a charity shop and decided I’d give it a try.

The Coldest Girl in Cold Town Holly Black [Read] *Review here

(Buy here)

I’ve been reading Holly Black for a long time and during the same faeries spree that I got All That Glows I also decided to pick up a standalone. Since I already love Holly Black and my best friend recommended it, I decided to give it a try. You can find my review in the link above.

Dark Blade – Steve Feasey (Buy here)

I hadn’t heard anything about this book before I saw it, but after reading the blurb I was convinced enough to check it out. I hope this will be everything I’m hoping!

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin) – Robin LeFevers (Buy here)

I finally have the book I was missing in the His Fair Assassin series. Only to discover there is a fourth book…with a different cover. But that’s okay, I can pretend it doesn’t exist for a bit.

The Dragon’s Call (Merlin #1) – Simon Forward (Buy here)

Now y’all know I’m a sucker for tie-in books and Merlin is no exception. I love the Merlin TV show so I decided I had to read these. I don’t even care if they’re for children, I’m happy.

Fire (Graceling #2) – Kristen Cashore (Buy here)

I already have the first book so I added it to the collection. Annoyingly it’s an oversized paperback and my copy of Graceling is a regular ones, but that’s fine for now. I’ll take what I can get.

Frostheart – Jamie Littler (ARC) Released September 2019.

Super excited to read this ARC! The cover is so beautiful and looks exactly like my kind of story.

A Gathering of Shadows – V.E. Schwab (Buy here)

Filled in the blank in the series, and it’s high up on my TBR pile since I’ve never read anything by V.E. Schwab before.

Gumiko: Wicked Fox – Kat Cho (Buy here)

I saw a review of this book and it convinced me to pick it up. I’m so excited to read this but I have a feeling I’ll be super sad when it’s over so I’m putting it lower on my TBR so I don’t forget the plot.

Hollow Earth – Carol Barrowman and John Barrowman (Buy here)

Hyped to read these and trying to get hold of all the novels.

The Infinite Sea – Rick Yancey (Buy here)

Finally found a nice copy of this so I picked it up. I couldn’t find my copy of The 5th Wave for ages but I’m happy to say they have been reunited.

Invaded (Alienated #2) – Melissa Landers (Buy here)

I read the first book way back in 2017 and now I’m concerned I won’t remember the plot…but I’ll probably at least try to read the sequel before I decide if Alienated needs a re-read first.

Island of Fire (Unwanteds) – Lisa McMann (Buy here)

Gradually filling in the series.

Keeper of the Lost Cities 1-5 boxset – Shannon Messenger (Buy here)

I recently listened to the first book in this series as an audiobook and really enjoyed it. Since I am not a patient person, I went ahead and bought the boxset of the first five books.

King of Scars – Leigh Bardugo (Buy here)

Honestly, I wasn’t super into the Grisha Trilogy when I read it but I loved Six of Crows. I am still woefully behind and haven’t read Crooked Kingdom…but maybe King of Scars will be enough to sway me. Also this cover makes me very happy.

Meddling Kids – Edgar Cantero (Buy here)

One of my friends posted about this book recently and since I’m a huge Scooby-Doo fan I kind of couldn’t stop myself from wanting to read this.

The Mirror King (Orphan Queen #2) – Jodi Meadows (Buy here)

I found this book in a charity shop and it piqued my interest. Turned out I had the first book on my wishlist already so it must have been fate.

Leia: Princess of Alderaan – Claudia Grey (Buy here)

I’m all about the tie-ins and the expanded Star Wars universe, especially when it’s about Princess Leia.

The Magician’s Land (Magicians #3) Lev Grossman (Buy here)

I started watching The Magicians a while ago and I liked it so much I wanted to read the books it was based on. So…you know, here I am.

The Orphan Queen – Jodi Meadows (Buy here)

Since I had picked up the second book I went ahead and picked up the first so I could start the series.

Practical Magic – Alice Hoffman (Buy here)

I’ve been wanting to read this ever since I watched the movie about ten years ago. Here I am. I’m ready. Reading an adult book…which is shocking in itself.

Queen of Air and Darkness (The Dark Artifaces #3) – Cassandra Clare (Buy here)

Filling in my Cassandra Clare collection so I can power through it all.

Queen of Ruin – Tracy Banghart (Buy here)

I picked up the first book last month and when I saw this in the store I decided it could be my next series.

The Rook Trilogy – Paul Stewart (Buy here)

I’ve been wanting to read this series for so long but I decided I had to get everything first. Unfortunately the reading order is a little confusing so I’m buying everything.

See How They Run (Embassy Row #2) by Ally Carter (Buy here)

Seeing is Deceiving ( T*Witches #3) H.B. Gilmour and Randi Reisfeld (Buy here)

Getting hold of these books is a nightmare but I’m getting there finally! After 8 years of trying to get this specific book.

Stormbreaker the Graphic Novel (Buy here)

I have a collection of my favourite series in graphic novel form: Artemis Fowl, Percy Jackson, and now Alex Rider. I’m gradually filling them in when I find them.

The Storm Crow (ARC) – Kayln Josephson (Buy here)

I got this ARC for this book and honestly, I couldn’t stop myself from reading it immediately. I’m writing the review up now!

The Witch Hunters (T*Witches #) – H.B. Gilmour and Randi Reisfeld (Buy here)

Another of my difficult to find series adventures.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer – Michelle Hodkin (Buy here)

I’ve been wanting this book for quite a while so I decided to pick it up.

Windwitch (Witchlands #2) – Susan Dennard (Buy here)

I’ve owned Truthwitch since it first came out so now I’m finally sorting myself out with this series. Basically, I’m slow at picking up what I already own.

W.I.T.C.H. (15) The Graphic Novel, Part V. The Book of Elements, Vol. 3 by Elisabetta Gnone, Alessandro Barbucci, and Barbara Canepa (buy here)

I’m still missing a few volumes between here and what I have (volume 13 and 14) right now. However, my collection is coming along nicely and I have a whole shelf devoted to W.I.T.C.H.(my very favourite thing).

The Young Elites – Marie Lu (Buy here)

I’ve never read anything by Marie Lu so I decided it was finally time.

Have you read any of the books in my haul? How many books did you pick up this month?
Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to follow the blog – let’s be friends!

As always, happy reading, and goodbye July!
